Employment, Social Affairs and Migration

Despite the continuous EU efforts to improve living conditions by promoting employment, sustainable growth and greater social cohesion, the EU faces considerable challenges in this area. In 2017, almost 23 million people were unemployed and an estimated 113 million were living at risk of poverty and social exclusion.

The European Union has been developing an increasingly solid policy framework to complement national actions tackling employment and social challenges. The EU is a catalyst in social change, seeking to increase employment and worker mobility, improve the quality of jobs and working conditions, inform and consult workers, combat poverty and social exclusion, promote equal opportunities and combat discrimination, as well as modernise social protection systems.

Our team includes researchers and economists with a long track record of projects targeting different  aspects of employment and social policy, namely

  • Employment mobility, with emphasis on mobility of researchers within and outside the EU;
  • The interface of Higher-Education policies with the labour market;
  • Policies that shape vocational training and career counselling in the EU.
