Duy Huynh-Olesen is an Associate Director at VVA Economics & Policy.
Duy has conducted quantitative economic research since 2003. He has extensive experience from European institutions, having previously worked at the Danish Central Bank, the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and at the European Commission DG ECFIN.
At the Commission, Duy was part of the core team providing technical assistance and supporting Cyprus implement their financial and economic adjustment programme from 2013 – 2016. After that he turned his attention to the settlement negotiations in Cyprus, where he was part of the team providing technical assistance to the negotiating parties. He was tasked with designing a comprehensive reform plan for a successful settlement as well as the debt sustainability analysis for a unified Cyprus. After this assignment, Duy joined the post-programme surveillance teams of the financial and economic adjustment programme for Portugal and Ireland.
At the European Commission, Duy also did European Semester coordination. He mainly worked in the areas of ECFIN, EMPL, GROW, FISMA and REFORM/SRSS, amongst others, conducting macroeconomic forecasting, fiscal surveillance and assessment of fiscal positions, debt sustainability, designing structural reforms, and financial sector policies. He assessed implementation progress of structural reforms within the context of the European Semester and has an in-depth knowledge of European policy coordination and how this links with the Stability and Growth Pact.
